As Laura sat in her office at the late hour of 10:30pm, she thought of the night before.  Not with Mildred or Mr. Steele but her long lost friend, Murphy Michaels.

It had been three years since she’d seen him.  She didn't mention it to her associates, though she didn't know why.  Last night was purely innocent, for the most part. "Okay, okay stop it Laura!" she thought.

Then she heard a familiar voice.  "Laura, I am shocked!" Remington exclaimed.

Laura’s heart stopped.  "Oh no, he found out about Murphy!" she thought then got a hold of herself.  "Why should it matter to him?"

"Why whatever do you mean?" Laura replied coolly.

"Our dinner date tonight!  You stood me up.”  Remington clarified.

“Then I thought, she could she be at home getting ready or at the office because she had to pick something up?  I called your loft, no answer.  I get here and find you doing paperwork!"  Remington accused.

"Oh my gosh are you sure that was tonight?  I completely forgot.”  Laura said dismally.  She walked towards him and stopped inches away.  “I’m so sorry."

Remington eyed her intently.  "Rather convenient you’d forget about our dinner date after you went out with someone else last night."

Laura gasped and took a step back.  "How did you know I was out with Mur…I mean, how did you know I was out last night?" Laura asked.

"Laura, who is Mur?" Remington asked.

"Well, uh, Mur is an old friend that I knew back in college. He was in town and well he uh, called…" Laura explained.

"How could you do this?" Remington asked.

     "Do what?" Laura squeaked.

"Go out with Murphy one night then stand me up the next." Remington accused.

"You spied on me?" Laura said incredulously.

"No, Mildred was looking through your appointment book to see about an appointment for a client and it said on November 3, "dinner with Murphy."  She told me, because she was concerned.  Why, Laura?” Remington asked.

     "Why, what?" Laura replied evasively.

"Why did you lie to me?" Remington accused.

     "I-I-I don't know!" Laura exclaimed.

"What’s going on Laura?  Your actions aren’t those of the Laura Holt I know.”
