"Remington Steele Investigations, Miss Reynolds speaking. Oh, hello Mr. Slocum. Yes of course Mildred is here. She's in with a client right now though, can I have her call you? Sure thing Mr. Slocum, goodbye." Bridgette replaced the receiver in its cradle and wrote down Mildred's message on a pink "While you were out" slip. She put the message in Mildred's in-box and returned to her desk. She picked up the report she was working on and returned to studying it. A half hour later she heard Mildred's door open and voice approaching the reception area. "I will be sure to get back to you Mrs. Jansen when we've completed our background check. If I get the report back this afternoon, I'd like to have the rest of the day to go over it. I'd say we'll be able to get back to you with a report of findings tomorrow.
Will that suffice?" Mrs. Jansen shook her head. "Why yes Ms. Krebbs. That would be fine. To be honest, I wasn't expecting an answer that soon. I appreciate your thorough manner." Mildred smiled and shook her clients hand. "The Remington Steele Agency believes that our clients should be kept in the loop at all times. It reduces anxiety and makes our clients feel in touch with the situation." Mrs. Jansen thanked Mildred again and took her leave.
Mildred smoothed her hands down her suit and turned to Bridgette. "Hi Bridge, how is that report coming?" Bridgette smiled as she told Mildred that she felt that they needed to double check the whereabouts of Mr. Williams nephew. "He seems to be the only one not accounted for that night Mildred. He also has been the only one not beating a path to our door to find out about the location of Mr. Williams' financial portfolio. Everyone seems to think his widow turned it over to us so it stands to reason that he should be among the majority." Mildred took the file from Bridgette and scanned it for a few minutes. "Your right Bridgette, he hasn't been accounted for that night and neither the police or us have interviewed him about his whereabouts. I wonder how he slipped through the cracks?"
"I don't. With all the relatives of this guy screaming foul play, all while holding their hands out for the twenty-two million dollars he just happened to leave, its no wonder he got by us." Mildred gave her back the file and went to her in-box. She retrieved her message and looked back at Bridgette. "Yes that's true Bridgette, but we can't afford to miss even the slightest possibility. We can't let a possible murder suspect slip through the cracks because we're inundated, that just won't do. Its a good thing you're here. One thing I've learned over the last eight years working for the Steele's. It is essential to any good detective to have someone being the check and balance on cases." Mildred looked at her message and smiled. Brett Slocum was just what she needed to get her mind off work for an hour or so. She trashed the message and headed back to her office to return his call.
She'd met Brett Slocum through one of her Dragon Lady bowling partners. It had been a blind date and she was more than wary about it. They'd finally decided to meet and things had gone better than ok. Mildred and Brett had hit it off from the very beginning. They were both divorced and they had many a story to share about their past marriages and hobbies. He'd was someone she'd never thought she'd find, especially after so much time had gone by. Mildred loved her work, she also loved Laura and Remington as if they were her children but even with work and playing referee for those two, she still missed the companionship of someone of the opposite sex. Brett had filled that void in her life and she was confident that she had done the same for him. She loved him more than she thought possible, suddenly growing older didn't seem so lonely. She picked up the phone and dialed his number. Her face lit up when the line was answered and a deep voice answered.
"Mmm, Remington, that feels absolutely delicious." Laura moaned. "I told you years ago darling, it comes naturally when its with the right person." Remington moved his hand in circular motions and elicited another heartfelt moan from his wife. "Really love, you are indeed a man with many talents." Laura declared as she sat up and gave her husband a lingering kiss. He returned it with equal measure before he released her foot. "Now then, how is that troublesome muscle cramp?" Laura took her foot in her hand and moved it around. "Much better now that you've worked your magic Remington. What a time for a cramp." Laura lamented as she moved into his arms. "Indeed." Remington agreed, "And we haven't even started the vigorous workout yet have we?" Laura smiled as he eased her back down on the bed. His body easily covered hers. Laura let out a long sigh. His body always felt so right to her. She felt they truly were meant for each other, like two pieces of the whole. Laura giggled as she felt his breath tickle the hair on her neck.
Remington looked at her and smiled. "Ah yes, you always were ticklish weren't you darling? I belive that could actually work out to my advantage eh?" Laura made a move to roll to his right and get off the bed. A move that Remington had anticipated. He increased his weight on her to prevent the move from being executed. He kissed the nape of her neck, ever so gently and began to nibble on her earlobe. "Umm, no fair, you are playing dirty." Laura gasped as he continued avid exploration of one of her erogenous zones. She wound her arms around his neck and began kneading his neck and running her fingers through his thick black hair. She let her hands roam where they wanted coming to a halt when they reached his behind. Lord, he had the nicest posterior. Laura never tired of touching him there. She began applying pressure as she kneading and messaged him. He moaned as he decided that two could play the game just as well as one.
Remington reached one hand up and began trailing circles around Laura's right breast through her gown. He felt her nipple harden immediately and smiled triumphantly. Never one to be outdone, Laura moved her hand around to her husband's front. She could feel his growing erection against her leg. She thought briefly of the time long ago when this would have scared her to death. Now she reveled in the feeling it gave her to be the cause of excitement for Remington. It was his turn to moan and as if on cue, he did just that. Laura began undulating her hips to increase the friction between them. "Good Lord Laura, you give as good as you get don't you love?" Laura grinned wickedly as she continued her movements. "Always my love, always."
Remington was about to make quick work of removing his wife's clothes when he felt the plane take a sudden dip. He and Laura looked at each other to verify that they'd both felt it. "Maybe its just turbulence darling." Laura said by way of an explanation. Remington shook his head in agreement and went back to driving his wife crazy. A few minutes later Remington was easing Laura out of her gown when the plane did another drastic plunge. Remington noticed they had gained air speed. He was instantly alert. He sat up and began to button up his shirt. Laura noticed the look of concern that crossed his features. "I don't like this Laura, something is not quite right. "How do you know?" Remington helped his wife off the bed and began helping her straighten her clothing. "I know how to fly Laura remember? Laura nodded as she remembered the Dumont case they were on years ago when Remington had flown a helicopter. Before she could say anything the plane rolled strongly to the right and threw Remington and Laura against the wall. Remington hit the wall first and reached out to grab Laura in an attempt to minimize the impact for her.
Just then they heard the captain pipe in over the speakers in their room. "Mr. & Mrs. Steele, we are experiencing some technical problems, please return immediately to your seats and fasten your seatbelts." Remington grabbed Laura's hand and made his way to the other room. The plane was pitching violently making it hard for them to stay on their feet. Remington sat down and pulled Laura into her chair. They both strapped themselves in. Just then the plane lurched again, Remington pressed the intercom button by his seat and buzzed the captain. "Captain, what seems to be the problem?" It was a few seconds before Remington got a reply. "Mr. Steele, it appears there is a problem with one of the engines. I'm attempting to compensate enough to get us to the closest airport. Make sure you two are strapped tight, this is going to be a bumpy ride."
Laura didn't like the sound of that. It wasn't that she was scared of flying, it just wasn't on her list of most liked things to do. "Is everything going to be alright Remington?" Laura asked with a slight worried sound evident in her voice. Remington looked at her and gave her a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "I hope so love. We should be able to make it to the closest airport even with one engine, barring any difficulties out of the remaining engine." He squeezed her hand and prayed everything would be just fine. Remington heard a clap of thunder and saw the streak of lightening. His lips grew closed in a tight line. A storm is just what they didn't need right now. Laura had also saw the evidence of the incoming storm. She knew they could be in serious trouble. She prayed to herself. Not now God, please not now, its just too soon. The plane pitched again and started to nosedive. She grabbed Remington's hand and he squeezed it tightly. They looked at each other and didn't need to verbalize what they both felt. Remington leaned over quickly and sealed his lips over Laura's. She returned the kiss with all the love she could relay to him. The intercom clicked on and the captain's voice was barely heard over the storm. "You two brace yourselves, we're going down! We're going down!"
