Laura sipped her iced tea and looked across the table at her husband. She smiled as she watched him take a bite of his filet mignon. She noted, with a slight blush that those lips were not too long ago wrapped around parts of her anatomy giving her sweet, relentless pleasure. Remington felt her gaze and looked up to see a Laura look quickly away, flustered that she'd be caught staring. He smiled as he wondered if Laura would ever get used to their being together, in an intimate fashion. Remington laughed to himself, it wasn't that long ago that they'd first made love, only ten years. In the grand scheme of things, not that long at all, considering that five of those ten years they had spent in agonizing, torturous wanting of a relationship that had been full of promises, but otherwise unfullfilled. Remington shuddered as he thought of all the tedious games of round robin they had played. If he lived to be a hundred, he didn't think he'd ever have the strength to go through that type of courtship again. Thank the Lord he didn't have too. He and Laura were married now and that's the way it would bloody well stay.
Remington snapped out of his reverie and cleared his throat. "Daydreaming darling?" He asked a still flushed faced Laura. She met his gaze and shook her head. "You don't miss a thing do you Remington?" He looked at his wife with a wicked grin, letting her know he knew EXACTLY what she had been thinking about. "Not when it comes to you my dear." Laura pushed her plate away and told her husband that she was going to the ladies room. He quickly got up and came around to pull out her chair. Laura thanked him and excused herself. She made her way to the ladies room. Once there she made quick work of freshening up her makeup. There was an older lady in front of the vanity with Laura. She reminded her of Mildred. Mildred. Laura wondered if she had known what her husband was about all this time. She was certain Mildred knew something if not everything. When she wanted to that woman could take a secret too her grave. Especially if it concerned what Mildred dubbed the "Romance of the Century".
Laura smoothed her gown out and looked once more in the mirror. She wondered when the right time would be to tell Remington her news. She wanted to surprise him and was meaning to let him know when they were in Los Angeles a few days ago but Remington started acting strangely and she'd decided to wait, at least until she figured out what was going on. Now she knew and she didn't like keeping things from him. She smiled at her reflection in the mirror. It seemed an eternity since the first day she'd met that man that was now her husband. She didn't feel old and she certainly didn't look it. Laura noted that her hair was still as full and vibrant as ever. She didn't have a trace of gray in her hair and not a wrinkle or dimple anywhere on her body. She was thankful now for the rigorous lifestyle being a private detective had entailed. She was also glad she'd kept of her ballet and running. Yes indeed Laura Steele was quite happy with her life and her husband. She made one final sweep of her hands over her hair and gown and left the bathroom to rejoin Remington.
He was busy taking care of their bill when she arrived. He stopped, got up, pulled her chair out, settled her at the table and sat down to continue paying for dinner. Once that was down, he looked up at Laura. "Laura, I didn't think it was possible but you are more radiant now then when you left a few moments ago." Laura beamed at the compliment. "Why Mr. Steele, you english gentlemen are never at a loss for words are you." His eyes surveyed her once more and his expression smoldered . "On the contrary Mrs. Steele, just an hour and a half ago, I was quite at a loss for words." Laura met his gaze and felt herself grow warm, the reference to their passionate lovemaking just before dinner wasn't lost on Laura. "True, but you always seem able to compensate in actions for your loss of words." Remington stood and helped Laura from her chair. As they made their way out the restaurant Remington leaned in and whispered in her ear. "I always believe that a man's actions and his words should be in perfect unanimity. Especially in affairs of the heart." Remington assisted Laura into the back of the Limo and settled next to her. He put his arm around her and she molded herself in to his side. "Remington, why can't you just say you put your money where your mouth is?" Remington put his finger up to Laura's cheek and outlined her jaw and mouth. She reacted immediately, her breathing grew shallow and she instinctively moved closer to him. "I thought I did." Remington murmured as he lowered his lips onto Laura's.
Laura returned his kiss with an ardor that left no doubt in Remington's mind just how much she wanted him. He kissed her cheek and eased his lips to the hollow of her neck. Laura arched her back and wound her hands in his hair. She couldn't seem to get enough of touching him, she ran her hands up and down his back in a rhythmic motion. Remington could feel himself becoming aroused. He ran his hands across Laura's breast and felt her immediately harden. They would be making love in the back of this Limo if one of them didn't come to their senses. He hadn't thought he'd spoken his thought aloud until he heard Laura agree and straighten. She ran a shaky hand through her hair in an effort to repair the damage. "I didn't think it was possible to want you anymore than I did last night Laura. It appears I was mistaken, as much as I want to finish what we started, I don't want any interruptions or audiences." Laura agreed and kissed him. He returned her kiss and drew her back up against him. They chatted about nothing in particular as they gazed out of the window to look at the scenery.
Laura hadn't realized she'd drifted off until Remington gently shook her awake. She opened her eyes and slowly focused on Remington's face. "Time to wake up Laura, we've arrived." Laura looked out the window and confusion crossed her face. "Remington, what are we doing at the airport? I thought we were going back to the hotel." Remington kissed her and helped her alight from the Limo. "Alas no my love, I'm adding on to the intinerary. I checked us out of the hotel before we went to dinner. Our luggage was sent on ahead to be checked in and loaded on our jet."
Laura looked stunned. "OUR JET? Remington, you didn't!!" Remington looked indignant as he escorted his wife to the boarding gate. "Really Laura, do you honestly think I'd purchase an airplane?" Laura looked at him and remained silent. "Laura of course I didn't buy it. I just rented it so don't look so taken aback." Laura smiled and kissed her husband. "With YOUR taste for extravagence you wonder why I had to ask?" Remington turned his attention toward the woman standing at the boarding gate counter. "Ah, hello there Judy." He said quickly reading her name tag. He reached into his jacket pocket and retrieved two tickets and handed them to the woman. "Yes, good evening Mr. & Mrs. Steele. We have everything in order and have been awaiting your arrival. If you two will just follow me I'll escort you both to the plane."
Remington and Laura followed behind the flight attendant. She escorted them to the awaiting jet. "Watch your step Mr. & Mrs. Steele." Judy warned as the climbed up the retractable steps. They were greeted by the captain and shown to their seats. "We've been cleared to take off and a few minutes so if you two will take your seats I'll be back in to show you the emergency procedures before I alight." "Splendid, splendid." Remington said as he and Laura seated themselves and fastened their seatbelts. "Remington, this is beyond wonderful! Where in the world are we going?" Remington smiled as he devulged their destination. Well Mrs. Steele, I thought it was high time we visited the islands and soak up all that luxurious sun everyone is always going on about. How does the Bahamas and then on to Captiva Island sound to you Mrs. Steele?"
Laura beamed and kissed her husband. It sounds perfectly sinful Mr. Steele. This is absolutely the best thing anyone's ever done for me Remington. I'm glad you orchestrated this whole thing. We really needed to get away alone, without phones ringing or clients screaming. This is perfect! I love you so much Remington, thank you for this wonderful getaway!" Remington looked like a kid that had just been given his favorite treat. He hugged Laura to him. "Anything for you darling. I too am glad we are doing this. I don't want either one of us thinking or talking about work, the office or anything not having to do with us, or this trip. Agreed?" Laura nodded and looked around the cabin. It was elegantly decorated. Besides their two seats there were two couches, a table with two chairs and a bar. Laura noticed another door and inquired where it lead to. "Why darling that's the bedroom. After we've hit our cruising altitude what say we have a more thorough inspection of it eh?"
